last weekend we all traveled up to our family cabin (Tall Timber) for our second annual Pumpkin Fest. it was a wonderful weekend full of pumpkin carving, good food and sweets, long walks in between the rain on saturday, and the usual relaxation that comes whenever you are at the cabin.
we took our trailer up for the first time so we would have more space (there is only one bedroom and a loft) and it worked out perfectly!
lots of discussion goes into finding the perfect design
carving the pumpkins was definitely a family affair
all lined up ready for the photos
the best of the bunch….it was impossible to get a good one this year
last year I had much better luck…..or they were much more cooperative!
I’ve been watching little miss makena quite a bit lately. last week we went to a halloween party for little ones at our church. it was fun and she had a great time doing the little crafts. but boy oh boy, I have forgotten how exhausting it is following a little one around!
at the end the kids were given snacks and sat for a story. makena sat in my lap and daintily ate off her plate, listening and looking around the entire time. I was amazed….that is NOT in my memory bank from those types of activities with dylan. I sat and watched a few of the moms trying to corral their sons to sit down, stop talking, eat off other’s plates, basically running around after their sons….frazzled and embarrassed that their sons weren’t behaving and doing what all the other kids were doing.
I thought to myself…..oh how I see my old self in those moms. that was me (and dylan!). boy have we both come a LONG way. I wanted to go up to them (one mom in particular who looked to be on the verge of tears…oh how I know!) and tell them…..hang in there! It does get better….SO MUCH BETTER! And to try and relax and enjoy that time with them, no matter how hard it is. I would give anything for one day back.
I am just amazed at how different personalities can be in kids….it’s been fun to experience a little one so completely different than dylan was at this age.
and lots of excitement for trick-or-treating tonight. no rain expected – YEAH! it will be crazy, as usual, in our neighborhood with all the kids everywhere. but so much fun!
