He belongs to a "Den" in our old town of Kent and the den master is his friend Parker's Dad, Jeff. It's nice because the boys get to see each other regularly now, Jeff does a great job, and it's a really nice group of boys.
One of the annual activities is the Pine Wood Derby. The boys make little wooden cars with their dads and then have a big race with the entire "Pack" of boys. It's a big thing....I had no idea! The cars must be under a certain weight (they get weighed before the race). Dylan and Sean had a great time making his car and they really did work on it together. Dylan even tried to enlist the help of Grandad and Auntie Debi when they came over for Christmas!
Friday night was the weigh-in and the practice runs. It didn't go so well for Dylan's car and he kept coming in 3rd. He held it together though....a year ago I'm sure we would have had some tears.
When Saturday came, I said a quick prayer for him to just win one heat (each car ran 6 times). Just one.....please Lord.....let him win just ONE of the races. (Now I KNOW it's not about winning, it's about having fun, enjoying the time together with your dad, etc.....but just ONE....please!). We were having fun watching the races and my mom was there with us too.
Well.......to our surprise, shock, and complete and utter amazement - his car kept winning and winning. After all the heats were done, he ended up taking 1st Place among 36 cars as having the fastest speed! And, his Den took the trophy home for having the fastest "den time".
A very exciting day indeed!
OMG, I cannot even imagine how excited Dylan must have been.....how fantastic!!!! And those cars are awesome....nice job!
