Sean's treatmnt update 03-03-2009

I had a follow up appointment with my chemotherapy oncologist today. The purpose was to discuss the results of last weeks Pet Scan, MRI and set dates to start treatment.

Pet Scan

The scan indicated that the cancer had not spread. It has stayed localized to the area where the tumor was removed. This is a great thing! This mans that we can move ahead with the initial estimated treatment.

MRI Scan

They found no convincing evidence that the cancer has spread into my brain.. This is great news! This mans that we can move ahead with the initial estimated treatment. Unfortunately they found a small something on the left hand side of my brain that will require follow up shortly after my cancer treatments. The doctor did not seem to be alarmed.

Next Steps

Assuming all my drugs are approved in time and delivered to the pharmacy I will start Radiation treatments and chemotherapy next week. Radiation will be 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week for seven weeks. I will have three chemotherapy treatments. One next week and then in three weeks and the last three weeks after that. The chemo treatments are long. It will be about 8 hours long. Three hours to put in a hydration liquid followed by 2 hours of the chemo drug Cisplatin followed by 3 more hours of putting in a hydration liquid.
